Flood-damaged community facilities throughout the Northern Grampians Shire will be restored to their former glory with the help of $571,570 in Victorian Coalition Government funding, Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty said today.
Representing Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan, Mr Delahunty said the funding for the Northern Grampians Flood Recovery Re-establishment Project would reinstate community infrastructure damaged in the January 2011 floods.
"In mid-January last year these facilities were inundated with water, some by as much as 1.5 metres," Mr Delahunty said.
"The water caused widespread damage which included buckled floorboards and shifted foundations, causing structures to sink and become compromised.
"This Coalition Government funding will help restore flood-damaged infrastructure in the Northern Grampians Shire so the community can once again enjoy these important facilities."
Projects to receive funding under the Northern Grampians Flood Recovery Re-establishment Project are:
Navarre Historical Society Museum - remove floor and silt under floor, re-stump building and install new floor
Stawell Golf Club - repair erosion damage to drainage, paths and creek crossing points
Stawell Golf Club car park - design car park, reshape existing contours, install drainage, seal car park
Stawell Motor Sports Club - remove damaged wall, salvage wall units, buy new wall units, install retaining wall
Stoney Creek Stores, Halls Gap - reinstate boundary fences, clean up and realign creek, install gabions
Stawell Gun Club - install new outfall pipe and rock breaching.
Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the funding for the local projects was being provided to Northern Grampians Shire Council through the $30 million Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund, jointly administered by Regional Development Victoria and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
"The Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund has been supporting, and continues to support, councils and community groups in restoring their flood-affected local assets," Mr Ryan said.
"The Coalition Government is committed to improving local infrastructure and services, creating jobs and boosting business opportunities throughout regional Victoria."
